Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR)

Overview:

The Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) at 360 Social Impact Studios plays a crucial role in supporting the studio's mission to foster social innovation and impact-driven ventures. This position is designed for an experienced entrepreneur who can leverage their knowledge, networks, and experience to mentor early-stage startups, contribute to strategic initiatives, and help scale socially impactful ideas. The EIR acts as a thought leader and collaborator within the studio, helping to guide and shape the success of both individual ventures and the collective ecosystem.

At 360 Social Impact Studios, we are committed to creating lasting social change through innovation. As an EIR, you will play a pivotal role in nurturing the next generation of impact-driven entrepreneurs who are shaping the future of social innovation.

Compensation and Benefits:

The Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) role at 360 Social Impact Studios is primarily a volunteer position. Our EIRs generously contribute their time and expertise to support the growth and development of startups within our community, driven by a shared commitment to fostering social innovation and impact.

While the position is generally unpaid, there may be occasional opportunities for 360 Social Impact Studios to contract with EIRs for specific projects or initiatives. Additionally, depending on the needs and agreements of the individual teams, EIRs may have the opportunity to consult directly with startups within the studio for compensation. However, the core role itself remains a volunteer commitment.

Roles and Responsibilities:
 

Mentorship and Guidance:

  • Provide one-on-one mentoring to founders and teams within the studio, offering strategic advice, operational insights, and guidance on business development.

  • Support entrepreneurs in refining their business models, go-to-market strategies, and scaling plans, ensuring alignment with social impact goals.

  • Assist in identifying key challenges and opportunities for startups, helping them navigate the early stages of growth.

 

Strategic Support:

  • Collaborate with the leadership team at 360 Social Impact Studios to develop and implement initiatives that enhance the overall impact of the studio's portfolio.

  • Participate in strategic planning sessions, providing insights based on entrepreneurial experience to inform decision-making and long-term planning.

  • Contribute to the design and execution of workshops, boot camps, and other programs aimed at accelerating the growth of impact-driven startups.

Networking and Partnerships:

  • Leverage personal and professional networks to create opportunities for startups, including potential partnerships, funding sources, and market access.

  • Represent 360 Social Impact Studios at relevant industry events, conferences, and meetings, building the studio's visibility and fostering relationships with key stakeholders.

  • Facilitate connections between studio startups and potential investors, mentors, and strategic partners.

Thought Leadership and Content Creation:

  • Share entrepreneurial insights and lessons learned through writing, speaking engagements, and internal knowledge-sharing sessions.

  • Contribute to the creation of resources, such as articles, whitepapers, and case studies, that can be shared within the studio community and beyond.

  • Stay abreast of trends and innovations in social impact and entrepreneurship, providing thought leadership

  • on emerging opportunities and challenges.

Support for Studio Operations:

  • Assist in evaluating new venture ideas, providing feedback during the intake and selection process for new studio members.

  • Offer operational support to the leadership team, including input on resource allocation, program development, and community engagement strategies.

  • Play a key role in fostering a collaborative, innovative, and mission-driven culture within the studio.

Beyond Traditional Mentorship

Here are a few additional roles that mentors can play:

 

Workshops and Seminars: Lead or participate in workshops and seminars that cover topics relevant to our cohort teams, such as leadership, strategic planning, or specific industry insights.

 

Office Hours: Offer periodic office hours where cohort teams can book time for one-on-one consultations or advice sessions.

 

Content Creation: Contribute to our blog or resource library by sharing your expertise through articles, guides, or videos that can benefit our broader community.

 

Event Participation: Serve as a panelist, speaker, or judge in our events, such as pitch competitions, hackathons, or community showcases.

Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR)

Expected Hours of Contribution:

EIRs typically contribute between 2-5 hours of their time each week, depending on their availability and the level of involvement they choose to have. The time commitment is designed to be flexible, allowing EIRs to engage at a level that fits their personal and professional schedule while still making a meaningful impact.

The expected hours include:

  • Core Weekly Team Meeting (60 minutes): This is a key meeting where the EIR connects with the broader 360 Social Impact Studios team to discuss progress, challenges, and strategic initiatives. It ensures that everyone is aligned and working towards the same goals.
     

  • Strategy Session (60 minutes): This session focuses on in-depth discussions about specific startups, strategic opportunities, or challenges. It provides a platform for EIRs to offer their insights and guidance directly to teams, helping them refine their approach and drive their ventures forward.

Beyond these structured meetings, EIRs often spend additional time engaging directly with teams in our portfolio. This might involve one-on-one mentoring, participating in workshops, or providing feedback on business plans and strategies. The total weekly contribution can vary based on the EIR’s interests and the needs of the startups they support.

The time commitment is designed to be flexible, allowing EIRs to scale their involvement up or down as needed, ensuring they can contribute meaningfully while balancing other professional and personal commitments.

As an Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) at 360 Social Impact Studios, you will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of projects, each tailored to leverage your expertise and interests. The projects you might be involved in can span across different areas of the studio’s work, and your involvement will be shaped by the needs of the startups, as well as your own preferences and strengths.

Here’s an overview of potential project types and the capacities in which you might contribute:

 

Mentorship and Advisory Roles:

  • Capacity: You may act as a mentor or advisor to specific startups within our portfolio, providing ongoing guidance on strategy, business development, product-market fit, and other key areas. This might involve regular check-ins with founders, helping them navigate challenges, and offering actionable insights based on your experience.

Program Development and Facilitation:

  • Capacity: You could be involved in designing and facilitating workshops, boot camps, or training sessions aimed at building the skills and knowledge of our entrepreneurs. This might include creating content, leading sessions, or even developing new programs that address emerging needs within the studio community.

Strategic Projects:

  • Capacity: You might take on a strategic project within 360 Social Impact Studios, such as helping to refine our incubation model, exploring new partnership opportunities, or working on special initiatives that advance the studio's mission. Your role could range from leading the project to providing high-level input as part of a collaborative team.

Venture Evaluation and Selection:

  • Capacity: As part of our intake process for new startups, you may participate in evaluating potential ventures, offering your perspective on their viability, and helping to select the most promising candidates for our program. This might involve reviewing business plans, participating in pitch sessions, and providing feedback to founders.

Networking and Community Building:

  • Capacity: You might also play a role in expanding the studio’s network by connecting startups with potential investors, partners, or other resources. Additionally, you may help foster a collaborative and supportive community within the studio, organizing events or facilitating connections between members.

The scope of your involvement in these projects will be flexible, allowing you to choose the areas where you can have the greatest impact and where you are most passionate. Your contributions will be pivotal in helping startups grow and succeed, and in driving forward the mission of 360 Social Impact Studios.
